AMEX left me hanging away from home - AMEX Gold Card

In the midst of our family vacation, AMEX sent an email suspending use of the card. Their claim of a balance too high made little sense as it was less than what we havee used recently. We have never been late in paying before and had much higher usage in previous months.
In a phone call they said the limit was to be $1700.

I paid the current amount of $1066 and continued to use.

Then I received an email stating the balance was too high at $1,000 and the use was again suspended. And then first thing this morning got a call requesting payment. My online statement does not even indicate a payment is due. Total Harrassment by AMEX.
AMEX risked our familiies safety by pulling this trick when we were travelling causing great pain and suffering while away from home.

In conversation with a manager, it is clear AMEX doesn't care if they put you in harm's way but only wants early payments on their cards. Fortunately we have plenty of cash and was using the AMEX card for points.

Thier practices are unethical I will treat them accordingly. They can wait until the due date.
